Leah Hupp joined GEDB as a research assistant in January 2025 for the project "Retail for Sustainability - Mid-value chain engagement for food system transformation (ReSus)" project. She explores how sustainability initiatives are impacting transformative change within the food retail sector and how retailers can be enabled to shift to a more sustainable production within Sweden.
Leah holds an M.A. in Sustainability, Economics and Management and a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (Germany). Through her studies in environmental sciences and also sustainability management, she bridges perspectives from ecology and economy.
Previously, Leah has worked in the field of renewable energies and for the German Environment Agency and before joining GEDB, she for WWF Germany for three years. There she collaborated with one of Germany's largest food retailers on Biodiversity Stewardship and developed a biodiversity strategy to tackle biodiversity risks within the supply chain.
This experience is valuable within the ReSuS project, to understand the needs and issues on both sides. Collaboration and finding shared solutions are key values for Leah, who believes that a common, science-based approach is absolutely necessary to really make a change.
